“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us.” 1 John 1:1-2
Reading those verses gets me every time. Just think about it, God, the Creator of you and I, was walking among men. That alone is mind blowing, but John did not stop there, he said that he saw Him with his very own eyes but even crazier, he held unto God. How jealous I am right now; have you ever wished that you were born in the days of Jesus Christ, to walk with Him, to hear His voice, to see the sun shine on His face? I know just the very thought of it brings joy and peace to your heart.
Oh how He loves us, Jesus did not only suffer our payment at the Cross for sin, but He told His disciples that He was going to His father and He would send His Spirit, the Holy Spirit to live inside of us (John 16:7). As a Christian, the biggest challenge I have is not overcoming sin, but believing that the fullness of God’s love lives inside of me. Jesus walked with them but now He lives in us. WOW, WOW, WOW! crazy right? That is how easy it is to access the fullness of God’s love. It is no wonder that He promised to never leave us nor forsake us, because He is right there within us, all day long.
This is why it is really sad to see that we all believed at times that sin was more pleasurable than the love of Jesus. I can tell you, I used to be “hooked” on drinking alcohol and watching porn, but the day I encountered the love of Jesus, He changed my life. Those things that would bring desire and pleasure to me just are not good enough to do that anymore. After all, how could the shame and guilt of sin be any match for the loving tender arms of Christ?
Today I can testify as John did; I have heard, witnessed and experienced the love of Christ. He desires to have a real relationship with you, where you can experience His pure unconditional love. It starts simply by letting go of this world and its sinful ways and asking Him to come into your life. Jesus does not desire empty words; He desires your broken heart.
